INQUIRY, SCIENTISTS, and the
ENVIRONMENT 5th Grade (ISE)
See a video clip ISE creates the
opportunity for 5th graders to explore becoming scientists while learning
about local environmental issues. Donning lab coats, students work in
teams and are asked to solve real life problems concerning real
environmental issues.

• This program enhances the study of our ecosystem and introduces students
to many scientific careers.
• Objectives for these activities are correlated with 5th grade learner
outcomes, benchmarks and proficiency strands.
• All students become scientists, wear lab coats, work in committees, and
complete a Scientific Data Sheet.
• Five committees are asked to research data to solve the question: “How
does construction impact the ecosystem?”
• Over 20 different careers related to environmental sciences are
introduced to students.
• Teachers receive pre/post curricular activities.
• Students receive a letter to take home upon completion of ISE (Inquiry,
Scientists, and the Environment).
