ISE creates the opportunity for 6th graders to explore becoming scientists
while learning about local environmental issues. Donning lab coats,
students work in teams and are asked to solve real life problems
concerning real environmental issues.

• This program enhances the study of our ecosystem and introduces students
to many scientific careers.
• Objectives for these activities are correlated with 6th grade
proficiency strands in science, writing, mathematics and citizenship.
• All students become scientists, wear lab coats, work in committees, and
complete a Scientific Data Sheet.
• Five “Disaster Control Teams” are asked to research data to solve the
question: “What do we do after a tornado?”
• Students discuss environmental issues relating to air and water
pollution, vanishing plants and wildlife, and the ecosystem.
• Teachers receive pre/post curricular activities.
• Students receive a letter to take home upon completion of ISE (Inquiry,
Scientists, and the Environment).
