Biological Diversity Classified

Until quite recently, biologists classified living organisms among five kingdoms. A variety of new tools and procedures is producing a great deal of new data relating to classification; not all of it always points in the same direction. Current systematic work utilizes from five to at least eight kingdoms, and the category of domain (including one or more related kingdoms) has been proposed. We will follow a more traditional approach, using five kingdoms.

Note: like any group of organisms, this site is evolving - - evolution takes time!
