Undergraduate Research

Undergraduates are encouraged to collaborate with a faculty member on a research project.  Undergraduate research is a great way to get hands-on experience doing science.  Undergraduate research is also becoming an increasingly important experience to have for applying to both professional school and graduate school.

Recent undergraduate research projects at OSU Lima have included:

  • Genetics in salamanders
  • Color patterns and calling behavior in frogs
  • Diet and egg-laying behavior in salamanders
  • Digestive physiology in tadpoles

Several of our students have gone on to present their research at local and national scientific conferences.  Recent presentations have included:

Jessica Geiger-Hayes, Lisa Regula Meyer, and Patrick Owen.  2006.  Examination of the intestinal contents of Rana clamitans and Rana catesbeiana tadpoles for symbiotic, cellulose digesting bacteria.  Presented at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum at OSU Columbus.
