| Research and Special Interests (back to top) Dr Hamilton is an Inorganic and Organometallic chemist by training. He obtained his Ph.D. under the guidance of Professor Alan J. Welch at the University of Edinburgh. During that period, he became interested in the chemistry of boron clusters, carboranes, and metallacarboranes and their relationship to organometallic molecules. He also developed an interest in the chemistry of sulfur-substituted boranes, a topic that he continues to study today. Recent publications have focused on unusual weak interactions within boron clusters and between boron hydrides and more electron-rich species. Ongoing projects are also looking at mechanisms of formation of halogenated boron anions and methods of preparation of new, sulfur-bearing agents for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) of deep-seated tumors. |
