Teaching (back to top) Originally from Lima, Peru, Dr. Andrés Zavaleta Fernández de Córdova joined the university’s Lima campus as an Assistant Professor in the winter of 2007, and is responsible for teaching organic chemistry courses. Because we are an OSU regional center, the courses, content, experiments, and required study materials used here match those used at the university’s main campus (Columbus). For a list of current and past courses taught by Dr. Zavaleta visit: https://pro.osu.edu/profiles/zavaleta.3/ |

| Research and Special Interests (back to top) Our work is carried out at the OSU main campus (Johnston Laboratory #125) and in the field of Molecular Recognition. Our group pursues the design and development of chemosensors, that is, molecules whose color and/or light-emitting properties (i.e. fluorescence) change in response to a specific input. Such molecules can be used for (1) monitoring concentrations of analytes of particular interest, or for (2) the optical imaging of molecular processes. Thus, research in this field can find application in medical diagnostics (rather than cures), medical research, quality/security control, and metal detection/extraction processes. Our scientific investigations require extensive synthesis and spectroscopic analyses (NMR, UV-Vis, fluorescence). When not teaching in Lima, Professor Zavaleta may be contacted as shown below.
