It is very important to research and find every resource available to teachers, students and the community. These websites in this online workshop will assist you in many ways. Keep in mind that you are working on this course to strengthen your abilities. Each participant in the course works at their own pace and should check in with the instructor as often as needed to get assistance.

Your first task is to spend about 1 to 2 hours investigating the web sites on our links page. I want this to be an overview. Do not worry about spending lots of time on any one page. I just want you to jump around and see if you have any problems viewing the pages. Please email me if you are having problems with viewing any of the main (or 1st pages) on this web site.

http://www.lima.ohio-state.edu/academics/education/ed_surfinsout.html  or you will notice you can also reach this site at the following address http://lima.osu.edu/academics/education/ed_surfinout.html

Your second task is to begin with  going to the following web site and listening to my podcast on Delicious - social networking. You will be creating an account, adding some favorite bookmarks and send me an email of your web site address for your delicious site. Do not send me your password. Your website address will look something like this. http://delicious.com/your_username_you_created

I think if you try this out you will really like the service that Delicious gives you. You can give your friends, teachers, students, parents and others your web address and share your bookmarks with anyone who has the Internet. This is a great way to take the students to the lab and just take them to your delicious account and they are ready to work. Rather than you taking time to go on every computer in the lab and bookmark all the sites you need them to use on a certain day in the computer lab. Make sure you listen to my podcast for all the ins and outs of how to use delicious. Check out one of my delicious sites below also.

Your third task is to create a log or journal of the hours you spend working on this course. I do not need to have a long description.

    • ie: Searching for lesson plan ideas - 4/2/2009 - 2 hours
    • Working on lesson plan - 4/16/09 - 1.5 hours
    • etc.

Your fourth task is to begin researching areas that interest you from the web site list. There are 1000's of resources available here for all grade levels. If you have any difficulty finding resources please contact your instructor right away.

If you are not a middle school teacher do not feel you need to spend time looking at lesson plans and web resources for the middle child. Spend all of your time looking for resources that will  assist you in teaching your student. Notice that some of the web sites on this list are for the students to learn using interactive web resources. Other sites are downloadable materials, lesson plans or new ways to approach a concept.

5th Task - Lets begin your assignments for this course. I will be working with each of you to determine what lesson plan(s) you will be putting your efforts on.

If you are taking this course for the first time. You are taking Surfin's OUT! Direct hits are IN! - Basic. You will need to include the following information for each quarter hour.

    • One lesson plan / including the Ohio Content Standards, benchmarks and indicators (for each lesson)
    • Assessment(s)-  as needed
    •  Any additional materials - as needed
    • Web resources used to support your lessons - please include a list of all the web sites you used to work on your lesson plan. You may use other peoples lessons. Just remember to give them credit and customize the lesson to work for your students in your classroom. Each classroom has a unique group of students so the lesson plan(s) you create will be unique to your class.

So if you have taken this 727.50 Workshop for 4 graduate quarter hours.... You will be creating 4 lesson plans with support materials and assessments. Making sure to document the resources you have used for these lessons. (I encourage you to use other materials you have uses as well, just include them in your resource list.)

I have sample lesson plans for you to review if you need assistance. I also have a lesson plan template if you would like to use it. However, many of my participants will use their own format for writing lesson plans as long as they include the Ohio Content Standards, benchmarks and indicators when available.

If you are taking this course for a second or third time....You are taking Surfin's OUT! Direct hits are IN! - Advanced. You will need to include the following information for each quarter hour. (you are going to include all of the items you  did for the Basic course and write a one page description on how you will use these resources to integrate technology into your classroom environment (or a classroom that you may have in the future).

    • One lesson plan / including the Ohio Content Standards, benchmarks and indicators (for each lesson),
    • Assessment
    •  Any additional materials needed
    • Web resources used to support your lessons
    • Plus, write a one page description of how you will use these resources to integrate technology into your teaching or classroom environment. You only need to write one paper per course. You are not required to write a separate paper for each credit hour or lesson.

Documents you may want to download as helper files. (Please understand you do not have to use this format. It is one that I use with my undergraduates.)

At anytime you feel you are not sure what to do or where to begin. Call the instructor or email. Their is an answer to any question.
