Research Interests: Dr. Bode has spent most of his career studying argument of one sort or other. His dissertation "A Logic for Conditional Statements" explored an area where formal logic seemed unable to represent the kinds of argument we make every day. He spent several years working with Dr. Roger Page studying the nature of ethical argument in terms of Kohlberg's ethical hierarchy. His current research is in the area of informal logic. His concern is with developing tools which will assist in the analysis and evaluation of ordinary argument. He has developed a computer program, ArguDraw, which allows the diagramming of any argument. The diagram so created can then be used to produce a detailed evaluation of the argument. The process is designed to be useful both in evaluating arguments made by others and in improving one's own arguments.
