The word "Theatre" is a seemingly easy term to grasp, yet there are many aspects involved in producing it.  From the lights and sound, to painting and sewing, and finally to acting - all parts of theatre work together to develop a performance that tells a story and is appealing to the eye and the ear.

What is a theatre minor?

The theatre minor consists of 24 credit hours from the Department of Theatre.  You may choose from any of the theatre offerings, including practicum courses, to fulfill the minor.  You may decide to "specialize" in one aspect of theatre or to take an array of theatre courses.  In most cases, the theatre minor will not add hours to graduation.  You can take theatre courses in the place of electives.

What can you do with a minor in theatre?

You may opt to include the coursework required to minor in theatre in the following degree programs:

• Associates of Arts
• Bachelor of Arts
• Bachelor of Science

For the bachelor degree programs, a notation will be made on your permanent transcript that you minored in theatre.  Although minors are not required at Ohio State, this notation shows that you have the initiative to make you elective hours work for you.  A minor in theatre will enhance your resume when you apply for positions involving skills as diverse as public speaking and problem solving.

What skills will you develop with a minor in theatre?

Your degree program, by its very nature, will reflect breadth and depth.  Versatility, adaptability, effective communication skills and critical thinking skills are only a few of the positive attributes you will develop and refine by minoring in theatre.  You will learn to meet deadlines with preparation and forethought and to think and act quickly when necessary.

• Those interested in utilizing a variety of artistic and technical skills for the creation of a production
• Those looking forward to a career in education, psychology, publishing, business and industry, public relations, law and, of course, the theatre.
• Those who enjoy or appreciate the theatre in its various forms and settings.

Choose up to 12 credit hours to the 200 level; minimum of 12 credit hours at or above the 300 level.  All courses available at Ohio State Lima.
