Parents and Family
We understand that the college search process is an exciting time for parents and family, as well as the student. It is important for students to receive the guidance and support for this search at home, also. So, below you will find a timeline for college planning so you can help your student prepare.
Freshman and Sophomore Years
Become familiar with college entrance requirements. Work with teachers and counselors to create a four-year high school curriculum plan to satisfy your goals.
Junior Year
Think about your reasons for going to college. Set goals. Identify important factors in choosing a college. List colleges you are considering and collect information.

Visit colleges, attend college fairs and college night programs in your area. College visits can be arranged by calling the school. Ask school counselors about local college fairs. Take the ACT in the spring.

Take the ACT in the fall if you have not already done so.
Senior Year
Continue visiting schools. Compare the colleges on your list, narrow them down and start applying in the fall. Be sure to note application deadlines, and submit school transcripts and test scores.

In the early Winter, file the FAFSA to apply for financial aid. Talk with the schools Financial Aid office for other opportunities. Talk to school counselor about local scholarship opportunities.

By May 1, make your college decision and notify schools.
