Barons Mens Basketball 2014 Mid Season Report

Lima, OH  -  The Barons Basketball team has passed the mid point in their season, and look to be close to finding their way. After starting the year with a very challenging schedule, the Barons have been gaining some footing in their ORCC contests.

When asked about his impression of the team of late, Head Coach Nick Pittman commented, “We have been in all of our league games but one this year. We have had leads in the second half of many of them we just need to learn how to finish. It seems like every game it is something different that bites us in the end, but I think we are getting close to getting over that hump.”

With the entirety of the remaining schedule being against ORCC opponents, the Barons hope to learn from their early season experience. “….we have a chance to build some momentum going into tournament. We have 20 games under our belt now we have to stop playing like freshman and put 40 minutes together on a consistent basis. We have the talent just need consistence and 10 guys pulling in the same direction.”, said Pittman.

The team appears to be getting healthy and more accustomed to playing together each day. When asked what can help most to gain the momentum the team is searching for, Coach Pittman said, “Steven Sullender missed 6 games (earlier in the season), but is back and (currently) leads us in points per game, steals per game, and rebounds per game, while he is also second in assists per game. Heath Geyer and Mason Cajka have been consistent the last 12 games, Cajka leads the team in total rebounds with 98 while Geyer leads the team in total assists with 40. We have a bunch of good hard working guys that are getting better we just need to break through in some of these close games so we start feeling better about ourselves.”

The Barons return to action tonight in The Hangar to make up their game with MU Middletown. Tip off will be approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the Women’s game, usually close to 7:30. Come out and support your Barons!
