Media Alert: Ohio State Lima participates in
National Depression Screening Day Oct. 8
Free
screenings and referrals available to all OSU students, faculty and staff
Ohio State Lima’s Counseling and Consultation Services will provide all Ohio State students, faculty and staff with free mental health screenings, information and referrals from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 8, 2009, in the Galvin Hall first floor lobby.
Thursday is National Depression
Screening Day, a nationwide event designed to raise awareness about clinical depression, suicide, anxiety,
and other mental health issues common among college students. In addition to
providing free screenings and information, organizers hope to reduce the stigma
associated with mental illness and seeking treatment.
“Many who suffer from mental illness experienced their first
symptoms during college,” said Samantha Haudenschield, PsyD, Ohio State Lima
Counseling and Consultation Services therapist. “Clearly, depression, suicide, anxiety, and
other mental illnesses are a serious concern for college students and early
intervention can be important.”
Private rooms will be available for confidential screenings
and referrals.
