Media Alert: Ohio State Lima convenes Advocates meeting; inducts new member to Hall of Fame

The Ohio State University at Lima will induct the latest member of its Hall of Fame during the meeting of the Ohio State Lima Advocates at 11:30 a.m., Fri., Oct. 23, 2009, in Reed Hall 160. In addition to the induction, the state budget cuts to the Ohio College Opportunity Grants program and Ohio Stateís response will be discussed.

The Autumn 2009 inductee is Daniel G. Bucher, Professional Engineer and Principal at Kohli and Kaliher. Mr. Bucher started his educational career at the Lima Campus and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

The Ohio State Lima Advocates group was formed by the Board of Trustees to engage past members and gain their insights and perspective on how Ohio State Lima can better serve its students and community. Members can also be past members of the Citizensí Advisory Council that preceded the Board of Trustees and selected community leaders.

To be considered for the Ohio State Lima Hall of Fame, a candidate must have attended Ohio State Lima at least one quarter, earned an Ohio State degree, and exhibit leadership in their professions and the community. Past inductees include Gil Cloyd, Kevin Haver, Susan Hubbell, MD, and Jan L. Osborn, PhD.

Daniel G. Bucherís Bio

Daniel G. Bucher, Professional Engineer, graduated from The Ohio State University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He started his professional career as a hands-on contractor project engineer on highway and heavy construction projects, including complex metropolitan multi-level interchanges, railroad bridges, and structures over major rivers. He moved into design and management after eight years, starting with highway and bridge design, reports and bridge inspection. This led to project management of complex highway projects, including complex roadway, complex structure design (Level 1, 2, and 3), curved girder, railroad structures (fracture critical), building underpinning, tieback and cantilever retaining wall designs. Throughout his tenure, Mr. Bucher has been committed to his clients and their projects.

Mr. Bucher is active in professional, civic and church activities. He has taken leadership roles in the Lima Chapter of the Society of Professional Engineers, including President, Vice President and Secretary. He was instrumental in establishing the Northwest Ohio Literacy through Church People for Change and Reconciliation and served as Charter President. He has been active in mission projects in Williamsburg County, South Carolina, the second poorest county in the United States. He is currently active in mission projects to Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
