Tragic Antigone comes to the stage at Ohio State Lima

The Ohio State University at Lima Department of Theatre presents Sophocles’ Greek tragedy Antigone  at 8 p.m., Thurs.-Sat., Feb. 25-27, and 2 p.m., Sun., Feb. 28, 2010, in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for students, and $4 for seniors and children. For tickets or information, call the Box Office at (419) 995-8382. Seating is on the stage and is very limited for each production. No late seating will be made.

Antigone explores the themes of citizenship, civil disobedience, natural law, and fidelity against the backdrop of the final stages of the Theban civil war. The title character is pitted against the new ruler of Thebes, who declares one of her brothers a traitor and refuses him proper burial, the harshest punishment of the age. The play deals with the consequences of her dissent.

Antigone is translated by Nicholas Rudall and directed by Ohio State Lima’s Melanie House. The play is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., New York City.
