Ohio Mobile Learning Technology Conference

Introduction on How Mobile Technology Is a Key to Education’s Future

St. Marys, OH – May 6, 2010 – The second annual mobile technology conference will be held at the Ford Training Center in Lima on May 6, 2010. The Ohio Mobile Technology Conference is devoted to introducing mobile technology and the positive impact that it has on learning. The free conference will provide K-12 educators, technology coordinators, and administrators a unique opportunity to explore mobile learning technologies and the impact they have on education. The conference is sponsored by St. Marys City Schools, GoKnow Learning, Inc., Verizon Wireless, The Ford Motor Plant and Training Center, and The Ohio State University.

SETA, the State Educational Technology Directors Association, emphasizes the importance of ensuring seamless continuous use of technology in instruction and assessment. The Ohio Mobile Technology Conference will focus on using mobile technology “seamlessly and continuously” in the classroom to achieve a level playing field for all students regardless of economic or learning barriers.

Mobile educational technology experts, Dr. Cathleen Norris, Regents Professor, at the University of North Texas, Dr. Elliot Soloway, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor at the University of Michigan and Dr. Mark van „t Hooft, Researcher/ Technology Specialist, Kent State University, and ISTE – SIGML - Chairperson will speak in breakout sessions to address the value of using mobile technology in schools. Dr. Gene Lloyd, Technology Director, at Pandora Gilboa Local Schools will share experiences that have occurred this year in his district using Blackberry devices with high school students.

OMTC will also include a teacher management session where teachers from St. Marys share how they used the mobile learning devices in their respective grade levels and content areas. The teacher panel from St. Marys City Schools will be discussing the mobile learning project that has been taking place in the district over the past two years. Student artifacts will be on display for educators to view.

The Ohio Mobile Technology Conference will showcase the exciting evolution of educational technology. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with internationally recognized experts in the field of mobile learning technology. Educators will learn about the benefits of using mobile technology in classrooms and will see firsthand how mobile technology is currently being used by students.
