Performance time moves up to noon to accommodate arts magnet students
The Baker and Tarpaga Dance Project will present Sira Kan/On the Road at 12:00 p.m., Wed., April 21, 2010, in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts on the shared campus of The Ohio State University at Lima and Rhodes State College. West African and contemporary dance come together with live percussion and vocals to create the Baker and Tarpaga Dance Project. Drawing from West African and post-modern dance, the dancers and musicians will perform “On the Road,” which layers movement, music and oral histories as it journeys through the physical dangers and political realities of West African men seeking new opportunities across borders. The transnational contemporary dance company is based in Los Angeles and Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. One of the show’s choreographer directors, Esther Baker-Tarpaga, is an assistant professor in the Department of Dance at The Ohio State University.
The Performing Arts and Lecture Series is sponsored by The Ohio State University at Lima and Rhodes State College. The performance is free and open to the public. For program information please call the Box Office at (419) 995-8382.
