Media Alert: Gift of Education brings students together with scholarship donors
Tom and Jean Francis to donate $50,000 to establish endowed scholarship fund
The Ohio State University at Lima will hold its fifth annual Gift of Education event at 6:30 p.m., Wed., Nov. 9, 2011, at the Shawnee Country Club. The Gift of Education brings scholarship donors together with students who benefit from the scholarships.
Ohio State Lima awards nearly $500,000 per year in scholarship aid. A large portion of that aid comes from private donations. In the 2010-2011 academic year, more than 85 percent of the student population received some form of financial aid.
The speaker will be M. Dolan Evanovich, vice president for strategic enrollment planning at Ohio State. He has extensive experience in creating and implementing strategic enrollment plans and developing and managing data-driven financial aid leveraging strategies. Vice President Evanovich’s prior appointments include his service as vice president for enrollment planning, management and institutional research at the University of Connecticut and as director of admissions at Arizona State University and Eastern Michigan University. The program will begin at 6:50 p.m.
Tom and Jean Francis will present a $50,000 gift to establish the Tom and Jean Francis Family Endowed Scholarship Fund. This fund is designed to provide scholarships for undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need, with first preference given to students majoring in communications who reside in Allen County and attend The Ohio State University at Lima.
Both alumni of Ohio State, this gift reflects Tom and Jean’s passion for the University and their dedication to the Lima Campus. Tom has had a long and distinguished career in broadcast journalism and will always be known as the "Voice of the Buckeyes" in Lima. Together, the Francises have been strong advocates for Ohio State Lima and have worked diligently to promote and support the efforts to build the University presence in west central Ohio.
