Ohio State Lima announces WBL Scholastic Bowl Tournament results
More than 100 high school students competed
Wapakoneta High School claimed victories in seven out of nine varsity matches to win the Western Buckeye League Scholastic Bowl Tournament held today at The Ohio State University at Lima. The junior varsity team from Shawnee High School swept all seven of its matches to win the JV division.
The Wapakoneta High School team included Joey Jose, George Jose, Austin Klingler, Ross Kohler, Chris Schwartz and Cole Thrush. Their coach is Adam Friemering.
The varsity runner-up team was from Elida High School. Elida varsity members include Josh Ballard, Greg Bennett, Ryan Bown, Zach Donley, Kaitlyn Morrisey and Chris Radebaugh. Shelby Cluts is their coach.
The winning junior varsity team from Shawnee High School included Gary Adkins, Katelyn Cremonese, Tomi Ojo and Theo Paik. Their coach is Janice Drerup.
The junior varsity runner-up team was from Elida High School and included team members Steven Britt, Connor French, Logan Malone, Brennan Swick, Patrick VanMeter and Devin Smith. They are coached by Shelby Cluts.
The WBL Scholastic Bowl All Tournament Team was chosen by the coaches and made up of one member from each school. The 2012 All Tournament Team members are Emma Boughan from Bath, Justin Hoffman from Celina, Anthony Pardo from Defiance, Chris Radebaugh from Elida, Morgan Long from Kenton, Anneliese Paik from Shawnee, Anthony Tenney from St. Marys, Taylor Grooms from Van Wert and Chris Schwartz from Wapak.
High school teams from around western Ohio went head-to-head in the round-robin scholastic bowl tournament. Varsity and junior varsity teams from Bath (Dan Grime), Celina (Hal Hoover), Defiance (Lindsay Long), Elida (Shelby Cluts), Kenton (Robin Hughes), Shawnee (Janice Drerup), St. Marys (Chad Doll), Van Wert (Cindy Thomas) and Wapakoneta (Adam Friemering) competed. Coaches’ names are in parenthesis.
The 2012 competition is the ninth year for the tournament, which is hosted by The Ohio State University at Lima and sponsored in part by the Mercer Savings Bank.
