The Foreigner finds a home on the stage of Ohio State Lima

Performances slated for two weekends

The Ohio State University at Lima’s Theatre Department presents Larry Shue’s The Foreigner at 7:30 p.m., Thurs., April 4; Fri., April 5; Sat., April 6; Thurs., April 11; Fri., April 12; Sat., April 13, 2013; and also at 2 p.m., Sun., April 14, 2013, in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts in Reed Hall.

Set in a resort-style fishing lodge in rural Georgia, the plot revolves around the visit of two guests, Englishman Charlie Baker and Staff Sergeant Froggy LeSueur, a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base. Charlie is a pathologically shy young man who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. So Froggy, before departing, tells all assembled that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English. Once alone the fun really begins, as Charlie overhears more than he should—the evil plans of a sinister, two-faced minister and his redneck associate; the fact that the minister's pretty fiancˇe is pregnant; and many other damaging revelations made with the thought that Charlie doesn't understand a word being said. That he does fuels the nonstop hilarity of the play and sets up the wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry for the "bad guys," and the "good guys" emerge triumphant.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. To reserve tickets or for more information, call the Box Office at (419) 995-8382. Maps to campus are available at Lima.OSU.edu.

The Foreigner is produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
