Area students to spend six weeks working, learning at Ohio State Lima
Four area students will spend six weeks working at The Ohio State University at Lima to gain valuable work experience as part of the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities Summer Youth Program. The first three-week session will run from June 10-28 and the second session will last from July 8-26, 2013.
"This program provides students who have limited work experience the opportunity to explore various careers, gain vocational skills and learn how to obtain a job," said Tammy Jay, job developer at the Allen County Board of DD. "For many of the students, this is their first work experience."
These high school aged students will perform a variety of tasks while on campus including housekeeping, grounds and facilities maintenance, and general office duties. The ACBDD Summer Youth Program is part of Ohio’s Employment First Initiative which includes legislation and an Executive Order to improve collaboration among the Departments of Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health, Education and Job and Family Services, and the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission to increase meaningful employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. Five other local employers will be hosting 20 students, in addition to the four at Ohio State Lima.
