Sutton-Ramspeck wins poetry prizes
Doug Sutton-Ramspeck, assistant professor of English at The Ohio State University at Lima, recently won two poetry prizes. He received the Michael Waters Poetry Prize for his latest book of poems, Original Bodies. The book will be published early in 2014 by Southern Indiana Review Press, University of Southern Indiana. The book was selected for the award by Michael Waters from 437 entries. He also receives a cash prize.
Sutton-Ramspeck also received the 2013 Neil Shepard Prize in Poetry for his poem, "Sacred Music." The prize carries a cash award and publication in Green Mountains Review. The selection was made by poet Mark Halliday.
Other awards received by Sutton-Ramspeck include the 2010 Barrow Street Poetry Book Prize, which he won for his book Mechanical Fireflies. Sutton-Ramspeck’s first collection, Black Tupelo Country (BkMk Press), won the Eric Hoffer Book Award for Poetry in 2010 and the John Ciardi Prize for Poetry in 2007. Another book, Possum Nocturne, is published by NorthShore Press.
