Ohio State Lima welcomes new faculty and staff to campus

Eleven new employees introduced since last opening day

Calvin Cleary, Reference Librarian

Calvin Cleary is the new reference/instruction librarian. Originally from Cleveland, Calvin studied English Literature and Creative Writing at Ohio University and then pursued his Master’s in Library Science at the University of Pittsburgh. He has since worked at Anthem College in Atlanta, running the library resource center, and also at the University of Pittsburgh, focusing on reference and circulation. Calvin will do library instruction for classes.

Jessica Hall, Human Resources Associate

Jessica Hall is the newest employee in the Human Resources office. Jessica is a Lima native who graduated from Shawnee High School and Apollo Career Center in 2007. After high school she attended Ohio State Lima, where she worked in the Student Activities Office, greatly enhancing student life on campus. Jessica graduated from the Fisher College of Business in 2012 with a degree in General Business and a minor in Economics. Since her graduation, she has worked as an assistant for the Associate Dean and in the Development Office before taking on her new role as a Human Resources Associate.

Dr. Abbas Jarrahian, Lecturer, Chemistry

Abbas Jarrahian joins the Ohio State Lima Chemistry Department this fall after serving as a Pharmacology professor at Ohio Northern for the past five years. Previously, Abbas taught at Butler University in the College of Pharmacy and Health Science. Dr. Jarrahian received his BS in Chemistry from California State University in Bakersfield and his Master of Arts degree in chemistry from San Diego State University. He earned a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the Medical College of Wisconsin, after which he served as a post-doctoral fellow at the Purdue University College of Pharmacy. At Ohio State Lima, Abbas will be teaching General Chemistry courses and coordinating chemistry labs. Dr. Jarrahian currently lives in Kenton.

Dorothy Jones, Academic Advisor

Ohio State Lima welcomed Dorothy Jones as a new colleague in April 2013, when she assumed her new role as an academic advisor. Prior to coming to Ohio State she worked at Rhodes State College. She attended Bluffton College as an undergraduate, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management. She also has a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University. Dorothy is very active in the community, most notably in her role as founder of I Am Making A Difference, Inc., an organization that presents the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. oratorical contest locally and also organizes tutoring services. She has served on the Steering Committee for the YMCA’s Black Achievers program and in 2009 won the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Lima YMCA. In 2012 she won the Anthony K. Thompson Meritorious Service Award from the YMCA and in 2013 the City of Lima’s Sixth Ward honored her with the Pioneer of the Year Award. At Ohio State Lima, Dorothy works with students majoring in math, the sciences and in the health fields.

Ronald Kaufman, Air Quality Technician

Ron is a new addition to the Facilities Department, where he has been working as a HVAC Technician since he started in January 2013. Ron has eight years of experience working with HVAC issues, experience gained while working at the University of Findlay and the John P. Timmerman Company in Lima. Ron lives in Columbus Grove.

Dan Matthews, Assistant Professor of Theatre

Dan Matthews is the new Assistant Professor of Theatre, with a focus on stage design and technical direction. Dan was born and raised in Rock Springs, Wyoming, before going to the University of Northern Colorado for his BA in Theatre Design and Technology. Dan did his graduate work at Ohio State, where he earned an MFA with concentrations in Scenic and Lighting Design. He taught for three years at Kansas State University before relocating to Chicago where he spent four years exploring the world of freelance scenic design and carpentry. While in Chicago he worked for many theatre companies but found a home as Tour Technical Director and House Carpenter at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. Beginning this fall, Dan will bring his expertise back to the classroom, teaching courses in design and technical direction. Dan currently lives in Lima.

Dr. Swathi Mohan, Lecturer, Chemistry

Swathi Mohan joins the Ohio State Lima Chemistry Department this fall as the new Organic Chemist, with specific areas of interest in Organometallic Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry. She is a native of Hyderabad, India, who came to the United States in 2003 to pursue graduate studies in chemistry. She earned an MS in Chemistry from Wichita State University and then went on to receive a PhD from Purdue University. At Purdue, she worked under the guidance of Professor Ei-ichi Negishi, the 2010 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, researching stereospecific synthesis of alkenes and alkynes via Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling. She also has research interests in total synthesis of natural products and synthesis of protease inhibitors.

William "Buddy" Reedy, Carpenter

Buddy joined Ohio State Lima’s Facilities Department as the in-house carpenter shortly after last year’s Opening Day meeting. He came to Ohio State after working for 19 years at M & W Construction. On campus, Buddy performs rough and finished interior and exterior carpentry services. He also inspects buildings for repairs, safety concerns, and compliance violations, and coordinates work with outside contractors. Buddy served on the Ada rescue squad for nine years.

Rachel Richardson, Career Services Coordinator

Rachel took over Ohio State Lima’s Career Services office in September 2012, just a few weeks after the last school year began. In her role, Richardson assists students with internship, co-op and job placement opportunities. Rachel was born and raised in Lima. She graduated from Shawnee High School, studied Business Marketing and Management at Wright State University and in 2012, earned her MA in Adult Education from Ohio State. In the past, she has worked as Program Director for the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce and as Business Development Manager for Office Depot.

Jason Simon, Custodial Worker

Jason began work in Ohio State Lima’s Facilities Department in May 2013. Jason originally hails from Michigan, where he grew up before joining the Navy for a nine-year stint. In the Navy, Jason initially worked as a chef, and then became a recruiter, which is what brought him to the Lima area. Jason worked in retail management for eight years before joining Ohio State Lima. He lives in Delphos.

Kristen Tooley, Academic Advisor

Kristen started at Ohio State Lima in October 2012 and quickly became an integral part of our advising team. She is a third-generation Buckeye, graduating with a BA in Speech and Hearing Science in 2009. In 2011 she earned an MBA in Healthcare Administration from Tiffin University. After graduating from Ohio State, Kristen worked as an Admissions Counselor at Tiffin University. She grew up in Salem, Ohio (near Canton) and now lives in Anna, Ohio. At Ohio State, Kristen works with students in the Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Arts, the Humanities, plus students in pre-Law and in the John Glenn School of Public Affairs.
