Ohio State Lima gears up for Homecoming Week
Lima Homecoming Court announced
The Ohio State University at Lima prepares to celebrate the University-wide Homecoming Week, which runs Oct. 14-19, 2013. Daily events are scheduled on the Lima campus, as well as on the Columbus campus, where the crowning of the Lima Homecoming king and queen will take place during the Regional Campus Crowning Ceremony on Fri., Oct. 18, 2013.
The Lima Homecoming Court was selected from a pool of applicants based on their leadership qualities, spirit, integrity, scholastic performance and achievement through their contributions and involvement at Ohio State. A selection committee interviewed each applicant and chose three male and three female students to comprise the Lima Homecoming Court. The application and interview scores are combined with the student body vote to determine Lima’s king and queen. The six candidates are listed below.
á Christian Downey, Bluffton, is a senior English major.
á Brad Ellis, Kenton, is a junior majoring in social work.
á Ben Garmon, Ada, is a junior psychology major.
á Jordan Henry, Belle Center, is a senior majoring in consumer and family financial services
á Kaitlyn Philpot, Germantown, is a sophmore biology major.
á Kayla Schneider, Wapakoneta, is a junior majoring in education.
Each of Ohio State’s five regional campuses will crown their king and queen during the Regional Campus Crowning Ceremony. Each member of the regional and Columbus courts will then ride in the annual Homecoming Parade down High Street on Friday night. This is the third year that regional campuses will have Homecoming Court royalty included in the University-wide homecoming celebration.
Leading up to the crowning ceremony, Ohio State Lima students will have the opportunity to participate in various events. A list of events on the Lima campus follows.
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Mon., Oct. 14, 2013, the Quad
Ohio State Lima students and the Lima Homecoming Court will enjoy a free walking taco lunch on the Quad to kick off Homecoming Week. Carmony, Ohio State Lima’s a cappella group, will perform from 12:00-12:30 p.m., followed by the University pep band. Students will also have the opportunity to write thank you notes to scholarship donors during the kick-off of a "Thank-You-A-Thon." The notes will be displayed on a large Block O, which will travel to various Homecoming Week events throughout the week, including the Farmer’s Market, Pumpkin Carving Contest and Variety Show.

Activities begin at 7:30 a.m. when the Lima Aggies student group will be selling drinks, snacks, and baked goods in celebration of Homecoming and harvest season outside of Galvin Hall until 11:30 a.m. The Aggies will then give hayrides throughout campus from 1-3 p.m. The Office of First Year Experience hosts a Pumpkin Carving Contest at 2 p.m. on the Quad followed by the annual Faculty/Staff versus Students flag football game near the baseball field at 4 p.m. The evening ends with a bonfire at 5 p.m. at the fire pit near the observatory.

The Homecoming Court and the Office of Student Life will be surprising Lima Buckeyes throughout campus with Buckeye Pride Trivia for great Ohio State prizes from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. throughout campus. The Hog Creek Review and The Creative Performance Club present the Ohio State Lima Variety Show from 12:30-2:00 p.m. in the Galvin Commons This event will highlight Ohio State Lima students music, poetry, art, dance, etc.

The Homecoming Court hosts a campus viewing of the interactive musical classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Audience participation bags and snacks will be provided.
