Resources

1. Luminarium's Chaucer page. Created and maintained by Anniina Jokinen.

2. Search engine for texts in the database of the Middle English Collection at the Electronic Text Center, UVa. This resource allows you to do word searches on texts of Chaucer's masterpiece (and other publicly accessible texts in the UVa database), which could be useful if you are writing on one of the tales. If you use this database, use the search limitation box that allows you to choose the single text you wish to search.

HELP!

If you are struggling with the readings from Chaucer, here are some tools that might help. Please remember that a translation is no replacement for the original. The translators do their best, but even the best translations of Chaucer often sacrifice style in favor of the story. Consider these tools as devices to help you read the Middle English texts, not as replacements for them!!

"The General Prologue" Modern English translation

"The Wife of Bath's Prologue," Modern English translation

"The Wife of Bath's Tale," Modern English translation
