FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 24, 2003 Contact: Pam Joseph at (419) 995-8284 or Erin McVicker at (419) 995-8332 Recent graduates include first from regional business program Among The Ohio State University's 6,775 graduates this spring were 23 who received their bachelor's degrees in business through a new program that made the business major available to students at the university's four regional campuses. An additional two are scheduled to graduate in August. Spring graduates from The Ohio State University at Lima include Krista Marie Boerger of Fort Loramie, Matthew Butler of Lima, Bradley James Dailey of Bluffton, Karen E. Lackey of Lima, and Chad Allen Maxwell of Mount Cory. Summer graduates are Jamie Lynne Stemen of Spencerville and Debra Sue Vobbe of Lima. The undergraduate business degree program was offered at Ohio State's Lima, Mansfield, Marion and Newark campuses for the first time in September 2001. Fisher College began developing the program several years ago in response to a request from the university to make its nationally accredited business program available to students at the regional campuses. Last fall, it received an Innovation in Business Education Award from the Mid-Continent East Business Administration Association of the AACSB-International, the national business school accrediting organization. Fisher College faculty and technology specialists developed the junior and senior level business courses offered at the regional campuses for the degree, using a combination of distance learning technology and on-site instructional support. The first six courses were rolled out in 2001-02, and the remaining courses were offered for the first time in the 2002-03 academic year. Development of the electronic instructional system and materials is supported by a grant from the Dorney Fund of the Cleveland Foundation. The grant enables employment of a team of in-house instructional technology specialists and a system of faculty grants. Each course involves a web-based instruction system that employs video, audio, graphics and text to convey the basic content of the course.
