For Immediate Release September 26, 2003 CONTACT: Pam Joseph at (419) 995-8284 or Erin McVicker at (419) 995-8332 Pulitzer Prize winner returns to Lima for Ohio and Its People lecture Oct. 6 The Pulitzer Prize winning biographer of Harriet Beecher Stowe and area native will be in Lima this fall as part of the Ohio and Its People lecture series. Dr. Joan Hedrick, the Charles A. Dana Professor of History at Trinity College, will present Harriet Beecher Stowe and the Making of Uncle Tom’s Cabin at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Memorial Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public. Hedrick won the Pulitzer Prize for her biography of abolitionist Stowe in 1995. According to the Pulitzer web site, Harriet Beecher Stowe: A Life tells the story of a gifted, complex and contradictory woman living in a multi-layered world of nineteenth century morals and mores. Hedrick is a native of Lima and a graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School. Her lecture is sponsored by the Lima Community Foundation. Ohio and Its People is a yearlong celebration of the Ohio Bicentennial organized by The Ohio State University at Lima, the Allen County Historical Society, the Lima Public Library, the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District, the Lima News, and WLIO TV-35.
