Ohio State Lima’s theatre department presents comedic All in the Timing

 The Theatre Department at The Ohio State University at Lima will present All in the Timing by David Ives at 8 p.m., Feb. 24-26, 2005, and 2 p.m., Feb. 27, 2005, in Stage 2, the new studio space in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts complex in Reed Hall.

All in the Timing is a series of six hilarious one-act plays that take the audience on a sidesplitting tour of the odd world of David Ives, whose works “constitute a virtual stress test of the English language” while delighting audiences the world over.

The six, one-act plays include:

1. Sure Thing.  Two people meet in a café and find their way through a conversational minefield as an offstage bell interrupts their false starts, gaffes, and faux pas on the way to falling in love.

2. The Philadelphia.  A young man in a restaurant has fallen into “a Philadelphia,” a twilight-zone-like state in which he cannot get anything he asks for.  His only way to get out of the dilemma?  To ask for the opposite of what he wants.

3. Words, Words, Words.  There’s an old philosophical adage:  three monkeys typing into infinity will sooner or later produce Hamlet.  But, what would they talk about while at their typewriters?

4. The Universal Language.  Dawn, a young woman with a stutter, and Don, the creator of Unamunda, a wild comic language, meet for a language lesson.  A display of verbal pyrotechnics and, of course, true love.

5. A Singular Kinda Guy.  Mitch never felt he fit in—until he realized that he was really a typewriter at heart in a world of word processors.

6. Variations on the Death of Trotsky.  We meet the Russian revolutionary on the day of his demise, desperately trying to cope with the mountain climber’s axe he’s discovered in his head.
