FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 17, 2004 Contact: Pam Joseph at (419) 995-8284 Ohio State Lima hosts Fun with Physics day May 22 The fun side of physics will come out to play when the Ohio State University Physics Student Honor Society brings Physics Outreach to Our Neighbors, or PHOTON, to the first floor of Ohio State Lima’s Life and Physical Sciences Building from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, May 22, 2004. PHOTON will demonstrate the science of everyday household items like microwaves, leaf blowers and liquid nitrogen. Hands-on activities will be available for everyone from three years old on up. The program was a big hit at the Ohio State Fair in 2003. The Ohio State Lima STARLAB Planetarium will also be set up on the first floor and offering programs on the Solar System and Constellations every 15 minutes from 1-4 p.m. At 3 p.m., a 45-minute show will begin in the STARLAB that not only presents the Solar System, but also highlights programs that deal with Plate Tectonics, the Weather, Bird Migration, and Native American Mythology. The event is free and open to the public. The Sigma Pi Sigma Physics Honors Society exists to honor outstanding scholarship in physics; to encourage interest in physics among all students; to promote an attitude of service of its members toward their fellow students, colleagues and the public; and to provide a fellowship of persons who have excelled in physics. PHOTON is part of their outreach to the community. # # # Editors’ Note: Science faculty are available throughout the week if you would like to do any pieces on the importance of science education and the continued need for students to enter fields that revolve around math and science. |
