The day camp is designed to provide a positive educational experience and foster a lifetime love of learning. "Our goal for the program is to provide children with a chance to have an enjoyable, yet meaningful summer experience that combines innovative enrichment programs with hands on activities," said Lynn Trinko, coordinator of KIDS’ COLLEGE. Participants will be able to choose from a variety of workshops each day. Some of the available topics will include visual and performing arts, music and song, beginning acting, theatre production, cultures of the world – China, dinosaurs, creative writing – fiction and poetry, and cheerleading for everyone. COSI on Wheels will also be part of the camp. Other topics may include web design, journalism, and dance. A complete list of workshops and registration materials will be available in mid March. Registrations will be due May 15. Students who will be sixth, seventh, or eighth graders in Autumn 2005 are eligible for the camp. The cost for all three days of KIDS’ COLLEGE camp is $49.95 per child and includes workshop supplies, morning and afternoon snacks, lunch and a T-shirt. Workshops will be limited to 20 students per class. The camp has slots for 80 participants and they will fill up fast. KIDS’ COLLEGE is made possible by a grant from the Office of the President at Ohio State. The KIDS’ COLLEGE grant proposal successfully competed with others from Ohio State regional campuses. The proposals had to show how the project would contribute to the University’s Outreach and Engagement or Diversity goals and the Academic Plan. The planning committee is made of a diverse group of campus and community members. Workshops will be taught by University professors and staff and community members.
