An Ohio State Lima student takes on a dog of role for the Theatre Department’s production of A.G. Gurney’s comedy Sylvia that runs Feb. 23-26, 2006, in Stage 2 of the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts in Reed Hall.

Stephanie Seamen of Lima plays Sylvia, a rambunctious street dog in New York City that manages to wreck havoc in the home of her new owner and his wife. Dr. Maria Ignatieva directs. The New York skyline rises in Stage 2 and the audience will get an up close view of the actors at work.

Performances are at 8 p.m., Feb. 23-25, 2006; and 2 p.m., Feb. 26, 2006. Seating is limited. Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for students and $4 for seniors. For tickets or information, contact the Box Office at (419) 995-8382.

Synopsis

What happens when a chance encounter in Central Park turns your life upside

down? Sylvia is a comedy about a man, his increasingly jealous wife, and the

dog, Sylvia, who has stolen his heart. Greg, whose life suddenly gains

meaning now that he’s a hero to a dog, will have to choose between his wife Kate

and Sylvia. Three other characters (all played by Miranda Crowe) add to the curious circumstances: Tom, a philosophical dog-lover in the park; Phyllis, an old classmate of Kate’s, and Leslie, a marriage counselor whose therapy is based on an utterly androgynous identity.
