Ohio State Lima welcomes incoming freshmen at Dean’s Convocation and Picnic

The Ohio State University at Lima will welcome its incoming freshman to campus with the second annual Dean’s Convocation and Picnic beginning at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005.

Students will gather in the Cook Hall Gymnasium beginning at 10:40 a.m. and proceed to the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts in Reed Hall by 11 a.m. After a faculty processional in full academic regalia, Dean and Director John R. Snyder will welcome the new students. Other speakers include Allison Gilmore, associate professor of History, and Ohio State Lima alumni Adam Marx.

The convocation is the first time many of the students will be introduced to many of the traditions and activities that go into being a Buckeye at Ohio State, including the importance of academic scholarship, the story behind Carmen Ohio and the ever-popular O-H-I-O.

Following the convocation ceremony, students will exit Reed Hall through a tunnel formed by faculty and staff, who will then join them for a picnic and games on the quad. In case of rain, the picnic will move into the Reed Hall Cafeteria.
