Student E-mail Account Setup

The Ohio State University at Lima
Technical Bulletin #200406100657

This information is for OSU Lima Staff and Faculty, and it describes the process of setting up student e-mail accounts.

This information is accurate as of the time of printing, June 10, 2004.

Student e-mail accounts are created, housed, and managed by OIT Columbus.  For most students, activating and setting up e-mail accounts is a quick online process, and most can do it from home.

See:

The process is simple:

  1. Students input their SSN and birthdate
  2. If found, students then read and agree to the OSU Computing Policy
  3. A password is created

After 30 minutes to 1 hour, the students can then access Online Resources for the Registrar, Financial Aid, and Webmail (https://webmail.osu.edu/).

If the student's SSN is not found, or if there is a mismatch of records, they will not be able to activate their account, and must see us at the Help Desk in 335 Galvin  Hall to assist them in creating the account.  Account requests are usually filled by Columbus OIT in 24 - 48 hours.  Typically about 10-15% of the student population needs to have accounts requests submitted by us.

When students come to the Help Desk to set up e-mail accounts, we do steps 1-3 for them.  OTS Lima does not have any "back doors" or administrative access into the student account system.
