Saving files in RTF (Rich Text Format)

In Microsoft Word, the option to save files as RTF is selected when saving (File | Save) or saving As (File | Save As).  In the Save/Save As dialog box, choose Rich Text Format from the "Save as type" line.  The filename should end in a .rtf extension when finished.  Most word processing programs recognize Rich Text Format.  RTF is also immune to the recent MS Word security vulnerability.
