We will use Halliday, Resnick & Walker, Fundamentals of Physics, 8th edition, extended, as well as the on-line homework system WebAssign. The Halliday, Resnick & Walker book comes in different versions - electronic, binder-ready, traditional book; and as the entire book, or volume 1 and volume 2 separately. For Physics 131, we will only use volume 1. For Physics 132 and 133, we will use both volume 1 and volume 2. We use the same book as the courses on Main Campus in Columbus.
In order to use the on-line homework system, you will need to register with an access code card 10 days after the quarter has started.
You have several options. Please read the information below carefully. Your best option will depend on your individual learning style, your finances and on your intention to take or not to take the whole year of calculus-based physics.
1) Binder-ready version of the textbook, plus three access code cards for WebAssign. This will be sufficient for the whole Physics sequence, Physics 131 - 133. This option will be available at the campus bookstore, last year’s price was $155. ISBN 9780470599303
2) Electronic textbook and WebAssign access for one quarter. This is available online on WebAssign, for ca. $37 per quarter. Note that you will have access to a full electronic version of the book, but only for the duration of the quarter. While you will be able to print out single pages, printing out larger portions of the book is cumbersome.
